The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA), established in 1988, was the first registered AIDS Non-Government Organisation in South Africa. AFSA is a development organisation that exists to mitigate the impacts of HIV and AIDS and poverty through the implementation of health and community development projects in vulnerable communities. Therefore our main focus is rural, vulnerable and hard to reach communities. As a foundation, we act as an interface between donors and community-based organisations (CBOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the HIV and AIDS sector, through placing donor funds with strategically selected organisations and providing them with ongoing mentoring, technical support & capacity building. Our areas of focus includes Combination Prevention and Treatment, Child Protection and Wellbeing, Food Security and Income Generation, as well as Policy and Practice through the promotion of equality, education and access to basic services. Our CBO’s therefore implement interventions under these principles to improve the health status and well-being of their communities and target populations. Moreover, they are located in close proximity to their respective target communities and groups, all of which are made up of local people who understand and experience the needs and challenges first hand. This allows the communities to be their own agents of change to enhance the resilience of the communities, however coping with the catastrophic effects of HIV/AIDS epidemic still requires significant support. MISSION Agenda, as a feminist media organisation in Africa, aims to achieve the goal of eradicating gender inequality and empowering women. Accordingly, Agenda is committed to giving women a forum, a voice and skills to articulate their needs and interests to transform unequal gender relations. We target in particular members of women’s organizations, academia, individuals and organizations interested in gender equality. We aim to question and challenge current understandings and practices of gender relations. We contribute to the development of knowledge about how gender relations can be transformed. In particular, we contribute to the development of women and their capacity to organize themselves, reflect on their experiences and write about them. We, as a feminist media project, value participatory and transparent processes and provide opportunities for individual growth and development. GreaterGood South Africa looks at investment in NGOs from the ground up, serving as an intermediary between funders and organisations. We embark on extensive evaluative processes so that funds awarded to these organisations can be given with complete peace of mind and, what’s better, they can be tracked for detailed reporting and continued feedback. We have been to see their work first-hand and, having witnessed the impact they are making, we are confident that we are linking funders with organisations that are effectively addressing the developmental challenges in South Africa.
