New Readers Publishers (NRP) is a non-profit publishing project based in the Centre for Adult Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban. Although the books are aimed at adults, Siswati, Setswana, Sesotho, Sepedi (Sesotho sa Leboa), isiZulu, isiXhosa, isiNdebele, English, some titles are suitable for use in schools.
We supply readers with adult content and simplified language in Afrikaans, Tshivenda and Xitsonga. We have 103 titles in print at various levels.
The books are suitable for people learning to read for the first time or for people learning a second language.

New Readers Publishers has been in existence since It forms part of the Centre for Adult Education (CAE) which is based in the School of Education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. The aim of the project is to make a contribution to an increase in adult literacy and the promotion of a reading culture. Publishing and distributing easy to read books in all South Africas official languages. Capacity building workshops form part of the NRP contribution to the development of a reading culture in South Africa. Experience has taught us that it is not enough to simply publish books. To convince them of the importance of reading one has to make them passionate about books. In order to promote reading and develop a love of reading it is necessary to have access to books. When the NRP started in 1991 there were very few books published in African languages, especially books suitable for adults just learning to read. The NRP has published books in each South African language. Many of these books were developed in our specialised Writing and Editing Workshops. This means that NRP has a total of nine titles in isiXhosa, three at each of the AET Levels.
