The KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council (KZNFC) was established in 2009 as a not for profit company (section 21), in response to the need to support the fashion design sector, through a strategic partnership between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism (KZNDEDT) and the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Investment Promotion Unit. The KZNFC is governed by a Board of Directors who provide strategic guidance. The KZNFC invokes a comprehensive and sustainable multidisciplinary approach that supports the continuous creative and economic development of the fashion and design sector. Much of the work of the KZNFC is premised on ensuring that strategic partnerships, collaboration and linkages are established with local and international institutions, retailers, business leaders, manufacturers, (CMT’s) and all tiers of government. Our services include: Market and design intelligence. Facilitating partnerships and linkages with leading fashion institutions and cities. KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council is the institutional driver of innovative fashion and design in the province that creates a destination that is internationally competitive and sustainable, thereby creating a better life for all. The KZN Fashion Council (KZNFC) in pursuance of its vision seeks to effectively organise and coordinate development and support for the fashion and design sector that contributes to the competitiveness of the Clothing and Textile industry as a whole. Waheeda Peters has more than 17 years of experience in the journalism field. She has experience not only in radio, newspaper, magazine and online mediums but also skills in editing, building content, proof-reading, media liaison, journalism lecturing and photography. She is currently working as a media executive at Brand Partners where my job entails PR/marketing and communications. She thoroughly enjoys meeting people and considers networking as a vital tool in the field of business and believes The KZN Fashion Council has been instrumental in giving a platform to established and emerging designers which continues to grow and by forging more business opportunities, the council is definitely making strides. She facilitated the identification of sector retrenches, technical development for effective production, training on basic business management, formal registration of informal business, identification of potential funders and market opportunities. Her role in the KZN fashion Council is to promote relations between designers and clothing manufacturing co-operatives, develop capacity for mass production, facilitate productivity competence and assist the designers to identify local manufacturers for their products. Her Community Health Nursing background coupled with a Certificate in Marketing and Business Management has complemented her entrepreneurial ambitions and drive to develop this program which has created 6 small businesses and created over 200 job opportunities for retrenched women in KZN. In 1980 he was transferred to ML Sultan Glencoe Secondary School where he matriculated. Shiraz served an internship and qualified with a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree and started practicing as Mahomed S Ismail and Associates. He has served as a councillor at Endumeni Municipality and is involved in Audit Committees in the region. Shiraz has served on the government parastatals such as the Estate Agencies Affairs Board. Shiraz is a successful entrepreneur and runs several companies. Sharon Paton is currently the Africa Merchandise Executive at Mass Discounters trading as Game and Dion Wired. Her role is to successfully guide and manage the team of buyers and planners, who manage the ranges and stock levels within the Africa division to reach the required KPI’s that have been set. Her strengths lie in her financial ability, her eye for product, her Supply Chain acumen, and her ability to mentor and coach young talent. Has a BA Degree in Law; an LLB and numerous certificates specializing in the legal field.
