Especially when you realised that the poor animal was so hungry, he was eating soil just to stay alive! is a registered non-profit organisation (002-312 NPO) that has been 'speaking' for animals for over 100 years. rescues abused and neglected domestic, farm and wild animals, promotes responsible pet ownership, provides a shelter for strays and a veterinary service for pets of underprivileged people. Volunteering is an enriching experience for anyone who has some free time on a regular basis and wants to make a difference. You need to be over 16 years of age, reliable and have your own transport. It costs you nothing, and you'll help animals every time you swipe the card at Woolworths and other participating stores. Be sure to nominate Durban & Coast SPCA as the beneficiary. Enjoy a cuppa or a light meal in the tranquil setting of our cafe and tea garden. If kindness towards animals has been one of the guiding principles of your life, wouldn’t you enjoy knowing that your voice against cruelty, neglect, greed and ignorance will continue to be heard beyond your lifetime? Your unwanted furniture, clothing, household appliances, books, jewellery, etc can be sold in our charity shop to raise funds towards the care of our furry orphans. We also appreciate gifts of pet food, blankets, etc. Fill your garden with beautiful healthy seedlings, shrubs and trees supplied by Ladybird Landscapes. Visit The Charity Shop at our SPCA for all sorts of wonderful bargains. We need volunteers for a variety of tasks, including helping out at events, sorting jumble and fundraising. Meet for divine cappuccinos, lattes or espresso at our relaxed open air coffee shop. Visit our plant nursery for beautiful seedlings, shrubs and trees. Best of all, a percentage of the proceeds goes towards the cost of caring for animals at the SPCA. Whilst some cases are the result of ignorance or lack of resources, our files bulge with cases of callous disregard for the suffering of animals: unwanted kittens euthanised by drowning. We are always in need of good second hand clothing, jewellery, household appliances, furniture, books, toys, etc. Instead of cluttering your cupboards, they can be turned into cash to help care for animals in need. We also appreciate donations of pet blankets and dry or canned dog and cat food. Monthly gifts provide a regular, reliable income that allows us to focus more on our work to help animals and less on raising the necessary funds. Many supporters prefer to give monthly because it’s easier to budget, and they know they can make a difference for animals every month of the year.
